Welcome. The site attempts to convey the complexity of thinking and actions necessary, I believe, in a messy and fascinating world, a world where we do not talk with each other enough, and revert to lone-cowboy leadership that is too intent on sub-maximization. The refocus on the value and complexity of humans, and the appropriate vigorous use of technology and organizations for humane ends, are critical. We can do better. The world is more of an enigma where by cooperation we can develop, than it is a battleground for truth where we constrain each other.
My main project is the book GardenWorld Politics . It is a serious attempt to lay out a believeable image of a viable future, since the WW2 super city image has faded and nothing replaces it. Since most everyone wants to live in a blend of Civilization and Nature, why don't we use our wealth - and emergence of bio and nano tech - to go there? The book explores this idea and the politics around it.
I have participated as a professor, therapist, consultant, social thinker, and artist. I think of it as a three level focus informed by stories - as a threapist emersed with individuals in their personal drama - as a consultant helping organizations be more stategic - and at the societal level, where politics and philosophy come together - all tied together by the discipline of storing telling - that is, the arts as source of models, and discipline coming from science.
Current work is at the links below the photograph. The weblog is input to the book and papers at the wiki, which tends to be a bit more organized. There have been several iterations of the blog, and I will try to gather a good index. For the moment, for the history, look at my previous blogs at radio userland and Bubbler |
